  • The vast majority of his constituents are liberals who know nothing about politics. These are the same people standing on the corner (when the rest of us are at work) with signs saying "no more wars!" Unfortunately, obama capitalized on this and he has to keep his voters happy. They don't care what happens as long as they can say "no more war", and if that means to release terrorists then so be it. I run into this stuff all of the time at work. You wouldn't believe the level of political ignorance out there.
  • i thought that most of them already died in airplanes. the few "masterminds" can still be tried in federal court with all of the rights and protections of american citizens BUT if they're not convicted and let go, a federal marshal will be waiting to take the most dangerous leaders back to prison under the patriot act. so, no, i don't think that it's dangerous. it does look like america is a nation of laws!
  • They should stand trial in a federal courtroom, prosecuted by the people of the United States for the most serious crimes ever committed on American soil. No other type of judicial proceeding could offer Americans and the rest of the world as satisfying a verdict, or a more resounding vindication of American justice and freedoms.
  • My problem is I am a New Yorker. I do not want these barbarians here. Our taxes will pay for security. Home Land security recently cut our funding. We will have traffic jams and closed streets. The city will be a mess. They endanger our life's by bringing them back here. What if one of them escapes?
  • Yes ... its the right move and about time
  • It shows that he has respect for the due process of law and is trying to reverse some of the Bush/Cheney "new normal" police state actions. +3
  • I believe that the US should be protected first and foremost, These trials will open up a circus in our courtrooms, we have seen in the past how lawyers can use our own system against us with discovery,,it's a terrible idea, they should be tried in a military court.
  • Surely the rule of law says that anybody accused of a crime must be tried in a court, and using any court other than the courts that try all other criminal cases would run the risk of the USA being accused of setting up a kangaroo court with the sole aim of convicting them. As to having the same rights as US citizens, the same argument applies.
  • I think it's a good decision. Everyone should have the right to have a fair trial.
  • It's going to show the world that America is a nation of justice and not just laws and will disarm even our greatest detractors who now wont be able to say it was secret or unfair trial. This is one of the smartest things we've done yet in our so called "war on terrorism".
  • I don't know if it is a good idea and neither does anyone else. Obama is taking a chance because he wants to show the world that our American system works. It is an attempt to gain some of the validity America has lost with foreign countries, especially in view of Guantanamo. The whole thing is complicated and I'm sure most Americans don't think the terrorists deserve any consideration in light of the crimes they have committed. However, polititians have other things to consider. I think Obama has faith in the court system and the people of New York to try the terrorists according to our laws and execute the laws properly.
  • Of course it is for political reasons. Obama and his team are a people devoid of principles and devoid of knowledge of nearly everything except community agitating. If we are lucky he will not make a completely ineffective comedy of this, as has happened with the expensive no-job "stimulus" or the no-vaccine H1N1 program.
  • He just wants to protect his fellow muslim family by making them all citizens. Remember Obama is muslim. I see I have a doubter out there... might I suggest you watch this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=tCAffMSWSzY
  • It does not matter the process as long as the process finds them guilty.
  • It may prevent them from dying via execution and becoming martyrs.
  • Why should we lower ourselves to the same level of incompetence as the Kangaroo Sharia Muslim courts? It'll be a dog and pony show, and then we can see the true face of Terroristic fanatics as they constantly shout "Death to America" in the courtroom.
  • from a political point of view and an emotional one, it seems like a bad idea. however, it was pointed out that the military tribunal has only a .05% conviction record when trying the gitmo detainees. and the US courts have a 90% conviction rate. (saw it on Anderson Cooper 360) also, the concerns that have been raised, such as a second attack by the terrorist seems a little absurd to me. I really don't think that we are so inept to allow a group of prisoners under guard to plan and execute an attack while being transported or in custody. In addition, from what I have read and heard, the whole idea of the military having the trials has basically turned into a feeding frenzy for contractors, they are basically building a new court on the spot, and new detaining facilities for the trials. they are building new quarters for the military officers that will be on the trial. seems like a big waste of money for something that can be done in the US
  • Yes they should be tried in federal court. Indeed the trial should have happened many years ago. Holding people without trial is un-american. The reason the trial has been delayed so long is that they needed to torture false confessions out them. There is no evidence against them. 9/11 was an inside job. Obama's failure to order a proper investigation is evidence of his complicity. Sadly these men will only get a show trial. Check out http://www.infowars.com
  • Open and fair trials are never a danger.
  • I don't care what court there goose is cooked in as long as it's well done.
  • The 9/ll terrorists should be tried in Federal court, but they should NOT have the same rights as American citizens! Such an idea smacks of "political correctness."
