Compact computers like the Toshiba laptop and tablet PCs are often more prone to overheating than desktop computers due to a variety of factors, including their small size, less-efficient hardware and portability.
Dust
Portable PCs have a limited amount of room for fans, heat sinks and ventilation, meaning that any dust that gets caught inside can severely hamper cooling and increase heat. Opening the PC to clean dust from the fan and CPU heat sink may improve heat issues.
Usage
Attempting to use a tablet PC to run too many tasks or intense tasks like games may demand too much of its hardware, causing lag and heat buildup as the CPU and RAM reach 100 percent of their capacity.
Portability
The portable nature of tablet PCs can increase heat; if PCs are used in the sun, used on fluffy surfaces that do not allow for ventilation or used in hot rooms or outdoor conditions, it can increase heat load.
Effects
Excess heat can cause computer crashing, and in some cases, it may cause permanent hardware damage.
Solution
Effectively solving overheating will depend on the cause of the heat issues; avoiding multitasking, cleaning out dust and using the PC in cool rooms on flat, hard surfaces are general ways to reduce heat problems.
