Why do people see it as so sinful or evil to try to make more money while you are sleeping than you can spend up when you are awake? That seems a lot smarter than working to death while awake and never having enough.

I don't think anyone that isn't a complete idiot thinks its a bad thing to make a lot of money. Where the problem comes in is how that money is utilized. Money is nothing but the physical manifestation of power. And power, in itself, is neither good nor evil. Those with wealth who keep it all for themselves are serving no purpose for the betterment of mankind. Or worse are causing proplems for others less fortunate with their greedy ways.

There is still this contradiction wherein it is perceived as more pure morally to work harder than it is to work smarter.

I do not believe there is anything sinful in making money asleep or awake. It is not having or earning money that is sinful it is what we do with it when we have it.
