  • Yes. Ladybugs can bite if provoked. The bite is not serious, though. Ladybugs also release a foul-smelling fluid that can cause localized irritation or dermatitis in sensitive individuals. Otherwise, they can invade houses and other buildings in swarms when they look for someplace to hibernate. They can stain wallpaper, furniture and clothing with their fluid excretion. This is usually not a problem with native species whose population is held in check by native predators, but is often observed with introduced species, especially the Asian Ladybug, whose population can explode because they have no predators to control them. Introduced species also displace native species. Again, the Asian Ladybug is the main culprit in Europe and North America.
