Question

Help answer this question below.

I was just playing Scrabble, and there was an "R" on the board. I could've used all my letters to make the word, "radicals" but there wasn't enough room! ARGH! What was the longest Scrabble word you have ever made (or almost made)?

I was in a SCRABBLE® game where my buddy had placed the word CAMPHORS on the board.

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/CAMPHORS

    In my tray, I had the letters Z Y X O BLANK E N

Giving the BLANK tile the value "B," I used my seven tiles to create the word BENZOXYCAMPHORS (a chemical compound word), by placing my 7 tiles in front of my opponent's 8-letter word, CAMPHORS.

Because an official SCRABBLE® board is only 15 sqaures by 15 squares, our word covered the entire board.

Sorry, but I don't recall how many points I scored with that word-creation, but I got an additional 50 points for using all 7 of my tiles.

That happened in the 1970s, and I have never repeated that kind of situation in any subsequent games I've played.

Thanks for an excellent question! It brought back some good memories.
