  • The pianist from the band called IMC. They are Australian but they don't have a record deal or anything, but they used to have a website. That is how I found out about them
  • Nina Simone.
  • Martha Argerich, the greatest pianist alive. And I believe she will be considered the greatest pianist ever for hundreds of years from now.
  • I heard Chopin wasn't bad. http://www.noolmusic.com/blogs/YouTube_Music_Videos_60s_70s_-_Chopin_-_Prelude_in_D_Minor.shtml I can't play favorites because there are a whole lot of Pianists I admire such as ray Charles. What an achievment for a blind man. He's not the best of all but considering his handicap, he was remarkable.
  • I found the Philip Glass album Solo Piano very enjoyable.
  • G'day Vanderde, Thank you for your question. This is a difficult question as there have been so many of note. In classical, people like Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin would be up there while Geoffrey Lancaster who lives in my town is a great pianist. In rock and pop, we have had great pianists like the Killer Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Elton John, Billy Joel and Ben Folds. In jazz, we have names like Thelonius Monk, Art Tatum and more recently Herbie Hancock. Regards
  • Tiffany Cheng. She's one of my friends and she's in my grade. She is so talented with a piano, and she's only 17. She plays for school plays, concerts, she won 1st place in NYSMA, she could play piano professionally, that's how amazing she is. I think she goes to Juliard in NYC too, I know someoene else that does, not sure about her.
  • ray charles
  • Living or dead? Dead it would be Vladimir Horowitz. I am very fond of the also very dead Fats Waller and of the just as dead George Gershwin. Gershwin made some piano rolls that were perserved, remastered and recorded about 10 years ago. They have all the nuances of his playing but in high fidelity. You must check them out. Gershwin Plays Gershin: The Piano Rolls volumes 1 and 2. Amazing.
  • History states that Franz Liszt (1811-1886) IS the greatest pianist who ever lived. I once read an article that referred to him this way: "He was a phonomenum, the likes of which may never again appear at a mortal keyboard." Of course there have been many outstanding pianists both during and after his lifetime but since no record (i.e., record, tape, film, video, etc.) was ever made of Liszt playing at the height of his talent, nor any human being alive who ever saw and heard him play, there is no objective way to compare his playing to any other pianist, living or dead. His fame is documented only by history and there is no reason to doubt its validity.
  • For me it's Errol Garner. He was born in the sign of gemini and could play golf and tennis equally well with both hands. He could also sign his autograph equally well with either hand. I think this showed in his piano playing. He had a phenomenal left hand as well as right. my second favourite is Fats Waller.
  • Ramsey Lewis
  • John Medeski of Medeski, Martin and Wood. Although Herbie Hancock is a jazz Piano pioneer. Medeski could probably out play him in speed and technical skill.
  • Bobby Crush has to be the best by far.
  • eric morcambe
  • Les Dawson
  • Wim Mertens, without a doubt.
  • Keith Jarrett or Dave Brubeck - as improvising composers go.
  • Jerry Lee Lewis.
  • Stevie Wonder, Little Richie & of course Ray Charles.
  • If I had a top ten list I'd have to include these names: Sergei Rachmaninoff Josef Hofmann Alfred Cortot Artur Schnabel Arthur Rubinstein Claudio Arrau Vladimir Horowitz Sviatoslav Richter Emil Gilels and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli
  • I'll add my vote to Martha Argerich being the greatest pianist. Her recordings are, although few, quite remarkable and she is as intense and virtuoso as I've ever heard.
  • Each persons favorite may differ. My vote would be Evgeny Kissin (can be seen on YouTube) and Valery Kuleshov. Both are very good if not the best alive today. Each plays with a very different style. I have never heard Rachmaninoff played better than Kissin plays his music and never heard Liszt played better than Kuleshov plays his music. Just because someone can play a composers pieces does not mean they play it well. If they are not playing it with the style and technique it was written to be played, it is not be played well. Playing every note on the page does not mean you have played the piece well.
  • Cyrus Chestnut
  • Robbie Mcdougall
  • Ben Folds! :)
