My father had a friend who moved in with his ex, her new husband and family and supported the lot. He needed a place to stay, and his two daughters were in the household so he wanted to make sure they were well taken care of.
I also have an uncle who got custody of his children, and ended up hiring his ex to take care of them during the day when he worked. It seemed the easiest and cheapest solution.
