P.C.'ness is the notion that someone MIGHT be offended by certain words, without their even being aware of it.

Perhaps I can illustrate by example: If I'm in a social gathering, say at a meal with others (where we'd be eating tofu, to be politically correct), and excused myself for a few minutes by saying, "I have to see a man about a horse," that would be rude. However, if I were to excuse myself by saying, "I have to see a bipedal sentient being of indeterminate gender regarding matters having to do with a large farm draft and/or racing quadruped," that would still be rude, but at least it would be politically correct. One hopes that one has helped.
