If you went by scope of influence, it would be Elvis. While Chuck Berry was great, his sphere of influence was much less than that of Elvis.
I cannot think of anyone from that time period who had such a huge scope of influence and whose name has become a household word.
elvis ok
To me its got to be Elvis.

good observation... yes i was just wondering what type of answers i would get seeing as Chuck's accomplishments were acheived during a very different era. And Elvis copied alot of the moves and his style from Fats Dominoe and other black entertainers so he wont ever get the recognition he deserves, so it doesnt suprise me really regarding the scope and influence during such a period of well you know

Elvis was heavily influenced by R & B and, indeed, the greats like Fats Dominoe are not going to get the recognition they deserve.
.
I wonder what would have happened if Elvis had been black? Conversely, Chuck Berry really had a fan base but not the dearth of material. Elvis produced a massive amount of material, more than just about anyone. Ok, he "borrowed" a lot of it, shall we say.
.
I would be truly interested in, if we could alter history for a moment, what would have happened had he been black. I really do not know. He did have the voice, charisma, and skill.
.
Interesting thing to think about.
