Well, in my country they give chocolates ;)
In Germany I was a registered blood donor in a hospital and I also donated to the Red Cross, where donors could get orange juice and nice party sandwiches. It gives instant strength ( glucose ) and prevents fainting.
For being a good boy/girl by donating blood.
Lol. Entertaining Effup is right. Having a biscuit and juice makes me feel a little better afterwards.
To increase your blood sugar levels that you lost by giving blood.
To help you feel better -- I faint anyway.
To get the blood sugar rising so you don't faint.
YOU DO? I am so giving blood. that is a deal breaker
In addition to the previous answers, you are supposed to wait fifteen minutes after your blood donation before you leave. The juice and cookies (and chicken soup, in the case of where I regularly donate blood) are meant to tide you over for that fifteen-minute wait.
The Juice is to replace the blood volume and the cookie is to get you to sit there for a few min. while you drink the juice and it gets into your blood stream. Or if it has raisins in it that is a down payment to the loss of the Iron in the hemoglobin that you just gave up.
So you can go down the street and swap them for a new iPod.
To get your blood sugar back up so you don't pass out. Doesn't always help though. Don't worry -- it's not a feeble attempt at bribing you into coming back!
truth be told most people will tell you its to regain energy but really that small amount of glucose won't help at all it really is just a thanks
it helps to raise blood sugar quickly.
thats to keep your blood sugar up. some ppl faint after giving blood and if your blood sugar is up it lowers the chances. also its a nice reward/
its to give you energy as you have just lost a lot of your blood, your sugar levels are down, and so is your energy levels
To get your sugar blood level up so you don't pass out and actually have to get blood.
HI
ALL THE ANSWERS GIVEN ARE ALMOST CORRECT BUT THE MAIN REASON IS AFTER YOU LOOSE SOME AMOUNT OF BLOOD FROM YOUR BODY YOU ALSO LOOSE THE BLOOD SUGARS LIQUID CONTENT OF THE BODY, SO INORDER TO SUPPLIMENT THE LEVEL OF BLOOD SUGAR AS WELL AS LIQUID CONTENT THEY GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO EAT AND DRINK.
