Heck, that entire movie ( which I found excellent ) left me so emotionally numbed and overwhelmed that I honestly wouldn't be able to answer. I admired, in general, though, the "humanness" of all the characters. A devastating movie for me -- along the lines of the also-excellent-for-me "Ordinary People." I liked both the lead men. I thought they portrayed real emotions sincerely.

I think Jake Gyllenhaal's character. However I thought both he and Heath were wonderful. The women too.

Jack. yes, maybe he did die, but at least he had the courage to be who he was & was trying to fight to have the man he loved.

Everyone was awesome, and Heath Ledger made an amazing cowboy. Coming from someone that's known a lot of cowboys, he had the 'mouth full of chaw' accent and the 'real men don't have no emotions' demeanor down pat. But personally I think Anna Farris was the scene thief in the movie. I love her, and I want her to get more parts that have substance. She plays bubbly and dumb so well, in that way only smart actresses can. She was barely in the movie, but in a movie with lots of great female roles, she stood out.
