The cost of brake repair can depend on exactly what needs to be replaced. In 2009, the standard replacement cost of pads is about $100, the cost of replacing master cylinders starts at $200 and an entire brake job (all parts replaced) can run $750 or more.

I just did my Dad's front brakes. The total cost was $23. For the same thing, a garage will normally charge $125 - $250, but a crooked one just charged my Brother $550 just for the front end (after I offered). Many places enjoy having you replace the rotors unnecessarily. Numerous non OEM rotors have been found to be substandard recently. If they want to replace them, go OEM.
