Finding simple and tasteful furniture can be difficult when expense is a big consideration. Wooden benches are becoming more and more popular as decorative elements, and that trendiness comes with an increase in price. Budget interior decorators should take heart, however, because there are a number of places to find inexpensive wooden benches.
Unfinished Furniture Stores
Depending on the size of your town, there may be one or more unfinished furniture stores. These stores carry simple furniture that is left unfinished (meaning there is no paint, stain, or varnish on the wood) and sold very cheaply for the customer to finish to his liking at home. An advantage to buying unfinished benches is that you can customize them to suit your decor; however, some DIY skills are required.
Furniture Discounters
Furniture discounters sell fully finished furniture, including wooden benches, at discount prices. Often, this furniture is of low-middle quality and/or comes requiring some assembly. Examples of furniture discounters are Ikea and Big Lots.
Online
Websites such as Freecycle or Craigslist will often have new or used wooden benches listed by private parties. Generally, these items are inexpensive or even free and may be of better quality than the products from a furniture discounter or an unfinished furniture store.
