Help answer this question below.
The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve is so named because it sends partially burned gases coming from a car engine's crankcase to the combustion chambers. It is one of the oldest emission control devices. The PCV valve is meant to greatly reduce or eliminate emissions from the crankcase. The PCV valve is really part of what is referred to as the PCV system, by which combustion gases, instead of being released into the atmosphere, are re-introduced into the combustion chamber and mixed with fresh surges of fuel and air. The PCV valve prevents engine corrosion by reducing moisture build-up in the crankcase, and improves the fuel economy of most vehicles. The PCV valve requires little maintenance. However, it may need to be replaced every 40,000 or 50,000 miles. Not all cars have PCV valves. Those that don't have the crankcase ventilated with a small breather hose and calibrated orifice.Purpose
