The Mini Cooper engine, also referred to as the pentagon engine, is made by Tritec Motors, a Brazilian company. Tritec Motors is owned by BMW Motor Company and Daimler Chrysler.

From 2001-2007, the engines were made, as already noted by a BMW / Chrysler venture called Tritec, in Brazil.

The Mark 2 model introduced in 2008 switched to a Pugeuot / BMW engine built in Europe. The "S" variant switched from a supercharger to a turbocharger.
