  • New versions of PC Tools security utilities are released continuously to keep pace with the ever-changing world of computer security. To make sure that your PC Tools installation is fully up-to-date, check its version number by launching the program.

    Checking the PC Tools version

To check which version of PC Tools you are running, launch the program. On the lower right-hand corner of the window, you will see the program version, along with the engine version, database version, and the number of viruses currently in the database (shown under "Intelli-Signatures"). To confirm that you have the latest version of PC Tools installed, visit the PC Tools Support Center (see Resources for a link). Click on "Latest release information" to see the version number of the most recent release.

    Configuring updates

PC Tools can check for updates automatically, or you can run an update scan manually. To scan manually, click the link labeled "Smart Update" on the upper right-hand corner of the window. The update utility will launch and check the Internet for updated virus definitions or program files. When it is done, click "Finish." PC Tools will be up-to-date. To change the frequency at which PC Tools checks for updates automatically, click "Settings" from the main window after launching the program. Click the "Smart Update" tab. Ensure that the box labeled "Automatically search for updates" is checked, then set the update frequency to the interval of your choice using the "Search Every" drop-down menu. The default frequency is once per day.
