The technology for the Antilock Braking System (ABS) was first invented by Teldix in 1970; it was known as ABS 1. The ABS 1 technology was acquired by Bosch in 1975 and refined, perfected and offered to the public in 1978 as ABS 2 on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
