The May 2007 issue of the Harvard Men's Health Watch said that the average American spends 101 minutes driving each day.Source:
A recent (2010) study showed that Americans spend several billion hours stuck in traffic. Presumably, fewer of those hours are wasted because technology permits us to use the computer, telephone, and IPod/MP3 while idling in traffic.
But what a waste. I drive only three hours per week now and do not miss the hours and hours on the road (except driving through the summer/Georgia/back roads/countryside in the 1980s.) But 101 hours a week! Average? Seems a lot.
