Yes, I've always had cats and usually one or more dogs. I've had as many as 12 cats and 4 Newfoundland dogs at the same time, plus birds and rabbits and who knows LOL!!! Can you say, Noah's ark?

True. I had a big old white tom cat and a big 100 lb. black lab. The cat hated the dog at first .. but later fell madly in love with her!! He used to drive the dog nuts following her around and wanting to sleep next to her!! The dog put up with the cat but hated him ... it was hilarious to see that odd couple.

True. Got my first cat when I was 2 (never been without one [or more] since then), and got our first dog (cocker spaniel) when I was 10. From memory that first cat (Buster) outlived the dog (Sasha) due to illness.
