Quit the union! that is ridiculous amount of dues to be taking 'across the board': someone who works 40 hrs/week pays the same dues as someone who works 4 hrs/week.
AND exactly what benefit are you getting from this union?
I'm thinking you should quit...your time has to be worth more than $1.50/hr! You could babysit and make much more than that!

Welcome to the wonderful world of unionized labor. I really think you could do better, but don't quit this job until you have another ready to step into. The way things are right now, anyone with any sort of job needs to hang on to what they have.

Another reason why I think unions have outlived their usefulness. I don't know what to tell you except I wish you the best.

You should talk to your union rep about paying less dues, like $2 instead of the $20, unions are supposed to protect you not rob you.

Considering you know what it's like to work, I think you should quit and spend that time in a more personally fulfilling way (i.e. time with friends, practicing some skill, studying). That amount of money is not worth anyone's time unless that time would otherwise be spent playing WoW, or something like that.

i have been told that you can get ahold of the union department and possibly get refunded considering you were never part of the union. not to sure but its something to consider and maybe call and ask some questions.

LOL..depends on your chance for promotion, etc., but you damned sure don't need union representation for sub minimum wage jobs. My ex wife worked for a union shop. It was a pharmacy and she barely made $75 a week after union dues.
Unions did a great deal for a great number of people, but when they go into shops where everyone is paid below minimum and hours are to short to live on the union isn't doing its job at all, just stealing from its members.
