I quit a job after half a day of working once. I was employed as a secretary for a mobile phone company in the UK. I arrived early and the person I was reporting to hadn't yet started work. I was trying to make myself look busy by tidying up the desk etc., and this arrogant woman who I learned was the marketing director, came over to me and yelled at me "Don't just sit there - associate yourself with the inter departmental phone directory!" I just looked at her while she glared at me and then she stormed off. I was not given any instructions by anyone, was assigned the task of answering the telephone which had all of the incoming customer complaints and was expected to be able to answer them. At lunchtime I left my security badge on the desk and went straight to the agency to tell them what had happened. They couldn't apologise enough. I still won't use a mobile phone from that company out of principle!

yes...boss kept breathing down my neck so I couldn't concentrate. He was a total jerk too.
-
Yes. It was in a nursing home and I simply couldn't handle it.

when i was about 15 i had to get my working papers to help with bills around the house and my under the table job position had ended, so i got this job at a local dollar store type place, minimum wage, etc. the first day i was in there, they asked me to clean the toilets, no gloves, with straight ammonia. i walked right out the front door.

Yes,I quit one part-time job as a glass collector in a nightclub; I was bored after one hour-there were few glasses to collect until much later.I guess I should have known but the whole night was so boring.I also left a part-time cleaning job because I felt they treated the staff like dirt and I had done other cleaning jobs which were far better.

No, after a week once. I only worked at Track Auto long enough to have money coming in until Sears called back when I was fresh out of high school.
-
Yes it was a call centre and i just cudnt handle people being rude to me down the phone

I was a door to door sales person selling spa packages working souly off of commission, that lasted 3 days (I was spending more money then I was able to make just getting to and from each subdivision). I was also a call centre rep selling news paper subscriptions for and hour and a half and realized I can't do out-bound cold calling!

Yes. I was hired at a Burger King (I'd been a manager at several other burger king locations on and off for about 2 years) and they put me on the broiler for my first day. Well, the buns were coming out burned and the meat was coming out undercooked so I adjusted the temperatures (as I'd done hundreds of times before during my stint as a manager there) and was promptly SCREAMED at by the assistant manager, who then readjusted the dials back to their previous burnt/raw setting. She told me I had no business messing with something I knew nothing about, to which I replied that if she thought burnt buns and raw meat were the way the burgers were supposed to be served, then she could serve them herself without my assistance, and I left.

I have done it twice, one time at a telemarketing center, and once as a buyer for a company.I could see that I was not qualified and should not have taken the job.
-
Yes, did it today after two hours on the job. No-one spoke English or knew what waas going on, and no-one understood the word toilet and had to imitate defacating to get the point across .That was enough for me so I just escaped, telling asupervisor in another building before leaving.

Because it's not the right job for me unless you need the money than just quiting after one day is not being responsible unless it's a different situation.
-
Yes, a sandwich factory my job was to stand them up on a conveyer belt for 10 hours. I didnt last the full first shift.
-
I haven't, but I would if I were treated in an abusive manner, or I could just tell that it wasn't going to be a good fit. No sense in wasting everyone's time.
-
Yes, it was selling insurance by cold calling on the telephone. I was expected to sign up all my friends and relatives by "conning" them. One thing they did was move people's desks closer to the door if they did not make their quota. I started at 9 o'Clock in the morning and finished never to return at 8:30 that evening. The job was also commission only no guaranteed income. It definitely was not for me.

yes and no-was cooking at this restaurant and it was sold-had been there three years at this time and the owners-he was in his 70s-had sold it to a nephew-the man came in and gave me a substantial raise right off saying of how i had really helped make this restaurant upscale-sounds good but he had a habit of yelling at people and when he got around to me i said hold it a second-i then walked to the other end of the restaurant and said okay holler if you want now you are far enough away to justify it-he said if i wanted to continue working there i would have to change my attitude-i didnt and said i wish you the best of luck as i went out the door and walked over to the resturant that was right beside them--three months later i watch as they closed the doors on that resturant-seemed he couldnt keep cooks and the customers got real tired of the inconsistentsies---good question-have some points-smile and enjoy the day

My dad only had one official job, it was washing dishes and lasted about 20 minutes, he hated it......so he worked VERY hard cutting trees and hauling fire wood, and also doing other odd and end jobs for rather cheap. It was harder work than any job he could have easily got, but he was his own boss, and couldn't stand working for someone else,

I quit a door to door charity collecting job after half an hour because I couldn't 'handle it'. The original reason I took the job was I thought, "It doesn't matter if no one donates - I'm getting my face out there and someone might offer me a real job." For some reason, that still wasn't enough motivation. I once quit an electrical job after two days because the work was so different to what I was used to, I didn't know what I was doing, had no one to show me, I had produced stuff all and it was just too embarrassing to go on.

they tried to make gelatin out of my bones.

yes after a 12 hr shift no one spoke english that was 30 years ago it was very intimidating not that i am racist it was boring as well the next job i had was for 28 years

Yes. I did this once. I worked as a cocktail waitress at a gentleman's club for about 4 hours. And I just couldn't deal with the nasty comments from the men that were old enough to be my father/grandfather. It was troubling. I walked out after making only $30.00 in tips.

Yes, I was working in a grocery store and a woman who owned a restaurant used to come through my lane every night and she loved how I worked and wanted me to come work for her aprt time so I did... I walked into the kitchen and it was a complete disaster, dirty and cold... so cold infact I could actually see my breath. I worked for a total of 6 hours grabbed my coat and walked out hopped on the bus and never went back. it was horrible!

I applied for an office postion and went to the business and did the interview, got the job and on the day I was to start.. I went in.. found out it was actually a telemarketing job (and not even a classy one) he took me to a cubicle in the back of the office, gave me a phone book (Yellow Pages!) and a list of items and told me to start calling numbers. I sat there for about 20 min staring at the wall of the cubicle, got up, asked if I could go across the street to the store for some headache meds... and got in my car and went to the movies. Never looked back.

I just did it yesterday. I have never done it before in my life. I took a job about 1/2 hour away for less money, but with the hopes of more opportunity and better benefits. I was brought to the office by the HR rep. and within 2 seconds, my eyes filled up and I knew I had made a collosal mistake. No one said a word to me all day. No one said a word to each other all day. You could hear a pin drop. The office space was disgusting and the people were quite an odd bunch. I cried the entire day, left at 5:00 and never looked back. It was completely not what I had expected and a big disappointment. I learned that next time I will make sure to ask to meet the people I'll be working with as well as see the environment. Somethings are a good fit and some just aren't.

no i havent but im thinking of quitting. i just started at a restaurant as a hostess type person. i've done the job before so its not that hard but the people there are so rude and boring. there was nothing to do because they only made me dust everything.. i dont know what to do though, whether i call them or i say it in person, i think it would just be too awkward in person cuz i've only worked like 2 days

I just quit my job after one day!!! WTF? Multi-million dollar company didn't allow me a break for 10 hours. I calculated the hours and I was getting peanut pay for a Bachelors degree in business and a current Master's student. I have been in the work force for over 12 years and I have to say it was not worth it to be treated like that with no dental insurance. Signs I should not continue include: crying last night, waking up and getting ready and crying some more. Not worth it.
