I have a 96 Cherokee Sport with automatic tranny. I can only get the ignition to engage when in neutral and after I have jiggled the shifter. Is there a linkage of some type that has worn out? HELP!

Same problem with my '03 Impala. The last tow truck driver told me the problem was with the neutral switch. I had to fight with the dealership to get them to replace the swtich while the car was still under warranty. Of course, the dealership could NOT duplicate the problem so they didn't want to do the job. AND the neutral switch is located IN the transmisson, so this was not an easy nor cheap fix. Sure enough..haven't had the problem SINCE! knock on wood1
