It's some kind of a trick that they played along in the movie. They never revealed the details on how those silly seashells worked. Maybe we'll get a chance to know when they finally invent it.
My guess is that you touch a seashell and a mechanical arm reaches in to wipe the cr@p off one's @$$. Another seashell puts some powder on the tush, and so on...
