Whats better for playing metal music drop d or just heavy metal strings, for my electric gutar

This is a case of persenal preference. I play Blues and play the heaviest strings I can find(14-58). I tune down a half step. Many aggressive rock artists use drop D tuning. Either way, heavier strings always sound better.
