I have 13 guinea pigs & have always had some in my life. They are unlike any other rat, mouse, gerbil or hamster. They are very intelligent & while you can train them to a point you will not 100% be able to train them not to pee as they do this when they are excited or very scared. Kind of like they squeal at you when they are happy to see you. +5

Take it out for a cuddle after it has already gone to the toilette! also it might be a little scared when you are handling it so make sure to do it often being gentle and take a treat on your lap so it associated being held as positive. Also you can toilette train it in the same manner. When is goes to the toilette in its try praise it or give a treat. Then you can make sure its been already before handling it.

Try to look for signs that they are needing to pee. If you have been holding them and they start to wiggle or squirm, put them back in the cage for a minute and see if they use the bathroom and then pick them back up. I reccommend using a towel underneath them when you hold them. You can also try to litter train them, but will probably not use it 100% of the time.

I was never able to; I used to put a thick, folded towel under them. And washed a lot of jeans.
They were SO affectionate, and they sang to me when I came home.

Its one of the hazards of owning a Guinea Pig I'm afraid. They always pee on their owners.I had it done on me a few times, and I found the best method is to place an old towel under him when on your lap.

as soon as they pee on you, pee on them back and put them back in their cage. seriously, removing reinforcers such as touch and freedom, would make sense.

Guinea pigs pee approximately every ten minutes. I read this. I have owned 6. If they are on your lap, let them in the cage every 10-15 minutes or so and then take them back out so maybe you have a chance at being pee free. That's what I do.

HI I was trying to find out the reason why my Guinea pig when get excited when there are screeching noise from the newspaper. When i try to touch her, she runs, and when I follow with my hands, she just go front a little and squeeze out her urines on my hands. and when i try to torch her again, she repeatedly squeeze her urines like shooting it on my hands . Why she does that ? As if giving me the signal " don't come near me" or I'll pee on you again.

But I don't mean her any harm. have been taking care of her yet, when she get a bit excited she will attempt to run away and when I pursue her even slowly, she will turn her behind and shoot her pees on my hands.

Its that a way to defend themself from threads ?
Is their pee poisonous ? a weopon of sort ?

Please advise. I am wondering whats the reason for her to do that. Everytime it wants food she will whistle to me as if she recognised me. But as above. She doesn't trust me. She always aim her urines at my hand even when I tries to play with it lie chasing her with my hand.... she will turn her behind, shoot her big flow of urines on my approaching hand... is that normal ?

Maybe the way that you are holding them hurts them and when you put them on your lap they get scared and excited and pee. They could just be excited because you are holding them and that makes them happy too. What me and my fiance do is put a towel that is Marked with a sharpie "Pig" so that if he pee's it doesn't get on us. Most of our guinea pigs have realized through me saying " Damn he pee'd on me" and have over a years time realized we don't like this behavior and neither of them pee on us anymore. Not all guinea pigs will be so considerate but you cannot punish them as this is a natural thing for them and they will not understand why you are punishing them. Hopefully this helps you out and good luck.
