First, the term “workgroup” cannot be trademarked. It is too generic.
Second (and I think this addresses your question), you cannot free ride on someone else’s mark. For example, I could not buy the URL “AttWirelessPhones” to start a business selling T-Mobile phones. However, I could buy the URL “AttWirelessSucks” to criticize AT&T wireless.

Can I use the word "Steelers" on a T-shirt. Not the logo. "Steelers" in plain block letters. This would be for resale.

You're reading Can a co. use (and create revenue from) a registered url that contains a word/words that are trademarked? Ex: workgroup is trademark'd term. Url workgroups.com is purchased by a diff co. to make $ in a different way than trademark owner.
