The points are just as easy to get - but the levels get further apart. For example, to jump just one level these days I need about 13,000 points.
-
If you're in it for the points only, then quit now. If you're here to exchange information and have a good time, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
-
Please don't give up! Just keep coming here and enjoying the participation; the points will take care of themselves. Besides, I need you to inspire me, since I'm at level 34! +4
-
Keep on trucking, pal. Be here for the fun and the points take care of themselves.
-
Honest, I wish I could give you some of my points. I mean, they're MY points, right? Oh, hang in there, kid. Before you know it you'll be 81 years old and you'll wonder where your teeth are!
-
If you are doing this just to climb a ladder somewhere stop now. Do you think you are going to feel different reaching Sage? Sage is kinda easy. Wait till you get to the 70's and 80's and beyond. It takes 35,000 points to get from 101 to 102. So you are either someone who likes this kind of correspondence or not. And yes, people quit all the time and come back when they feel like talking. There are no deadlines that way. Start thinking about the people you like on here. It starts happening around level 50 where you will start to connect to certain people and look forward to communicating with them.
-
I think Sage was the hardest for me, even though now it takes more points to earn the next levels. After Sage, you don't worry so much about points. Just keep playing to learn or give advice, or even chat with other interesting people and you will be fine.
-
well see, there this thing we have where we ask & answer questions. it's really new, not a lot of people know about it, but for us the points don't matter. that's what the site is about. Q&A. it's not a points race or a contest, so please don't treat it like one.
-
As others have said, don't focus on the points. Just enjoy the site. The points keep coming. +5
-
I think that answering the questions is the fun part, the points are an added bonus. If I were you I wouldn't quit now.
-
Keep it up! We'll help you.=)
-
Yes, I could understand that people focusing on their point amount could quit at that stage. Not because of the points themselves, I don't think they are harder to get, but because of the levels, which need always more points to achieve. Before that stage, many of us are interested on growing levels, because they are easier to get, and also because they raise your rating power (about up to Sage). Also, you are still very far from Maestro, where you usually get congratulated. For me, it was about there that I stop having interest for growing levels and bag filling. I still appreciate getting points as acknowledgement. But I just don't collect them anymore.
-
Sure, you should keep on trying. I've noticed that the higher level you get the more points it takes to get to the next level. I'm currently at level 30, but I gotta quit answering questions that I get slammed for. I guess some people just don't like some of my answers. They are entitled to their opinion as I'm entitled to mine.
-
Go for it. I'm here for fun. It makes my day to make someone laugh. +6
-
If you're in it for points...then you missed the point, pardon the pun. I don't recall the purpose of the site to be a popularity contest nor a game. That said, it's supposed to get harder to promote better, factual and useful answers or questions. Unless it's an opinion or conversational question, the answer you provide ought to reflect actual knowledge of the subject at hand, not mere conjecture to gain points.
-
As others have stated the points { and titles } are pointless - if they are the reason you are staying I don't see it, but than I really don't uderstand a lot. +5
-
I understand where you are coming from. I am at level 49 with less then 500 points to Sage. 46 is a little better then half way through Brain. It really seems to take a long time, because the other levels were so quick. Just don't think about it and you will be there in no time.
-
I'm usually here for the enlightenment and interpersonal interactions, but I do get eager for points once I get close to a level. Once you reach level 47, just relax and resume your activity here, rather than focusing on how many points you'll need to get to level 48.
-
If you are on here merely to score points, then I suggest you would probably be happier if you left. If you are here to ask and answer questions, then the points become less important, and can be left to themselves.
-
If you are only here for the points, you're here for the wrong reason. AB is first and foremost a Q&A site, where you can ask any type of question, get any type of answer, and help or make others laugh with your answers. It's NEXT a social network, where you can have some fun with the people you meet here. You can become great friends, or simply AB friends - The choice is yours (and theirs). After that, AB does have a gaming aspect to it - The levels and the rankings. The REAL idea of points is so the best questions will "rise to the top" within categories (they don't necessarily use this sort that often), and so the best answers will "rise to the top" within the questions. (This IS used.) The problem with making points part of the "game" is that people will do all they can to get THEIR answers to the top, including making sure the BEST answer gets fewer points than theirs. (THIS is where DRs cause "problems" in AB. Otherwise, they're just gnats on most people's *sses.) Don't "play the game" THIS way. Play honestly, answering well, answering humorously when you can, and asking good questions. It gets harder and harder to go up levels as you do. Here's a partial table for levels and a partial table for NAMED levels. http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2m_faq_ab_pnts_lvls_rtgspwr.shtml#levelingup . If you enjoy the questions, the answers, and the people, stick around and have fun. The points will take care of themselves. Sure, we all like points, and moving up in levels. But they are not the reason those of us who have been here a while are still here. We just like our friends, and AB in general. ;-)

There is a saying: "It is better to travel hopefully ; than to arrive." I think it applies here at AB. It's not really about the PTS; Its about enjoying the "Trip" :-)

humm well i never joined for the point of making points, the levels are kinda a extra bonus, i just answer questions because i like helping and the ones are that are humorous i answer for fun, it is fun to watch yourself gain levels, but that is far from the reason i am here, i enjoy answering questions, i actually enjoy answering serious questions even more, as i am quite a serious person, i do like some humorous questions though.
