Enormous PLEASURE! NY Metropolitan Opera, La Scala in Milan....Heavenly experiences!

When performed well it is pure pleasure. Badly performed opera goes beyond the pain barrier.

Pretentious.

Some huge pleasures. When I was a girl there was an opera broadcast on the radio I think every Saturday afternoon. It was a part of our day we looked forward too very much. We would work in the yard and weed the garden with the radio on.

Not my kind of music.

Opera: A musical with far too much music and too little dialog - which usually renders the subject of the performance totally incomprehensible. Opera is best enjoyed with earplugs, whiskey, and aspirin.

It's okay. I think the reason it's not more popular is that most don't understand the language so they can't get into the story. I mean it's basically a musical. Also exposure to Opera is low at least in the States. I heard there was a program for inner city kids in music programs to train them as singers. Some really got into it but their only problem is there aren't as many English speaking operas in comparison to Italian, French, and German.
