Hi,

my scleosis is s curve. when i am buying clothes i am so embarrass because i can't wear sexy clothes as my friends. what can i do to feel more confident within myself.

    It is important for you to see the fact that clothing does not make a person beautiful or 'sexy', but is just something that will perhaps accentuate this. You have nothing to be embarresed about. Hold your head high and be confident that your natural beauty shines through, without the need of certain clothes to make it appear so.

    Do you mean scoliosis - a lateral curve of the spine? It is actually quite a common problem (about 1 in 40 people have it).

    A lot of the problems associated with scoliosos are psychological in nature and though it may not make you feel better, the effects of it may seem to be worse than it is, simply because it is happening to you and so is much more personal to you.

    What can be done depends on your age - if you're not yet an adult and your spine is still growing and developing, it is possible to use bracing, similar in method to the braces fitted to teeth to ensure a good bite/smile. Obviously for scoliosis of the spine, the bracing is larger and can resemble a jacket or in extreme cases a corset which helps to realign the spine as it grows. See this link for more details

    Surgery is a possibility but is usually done only in more severe cases, because of the risks involved with spinal surgery. If you are really concerned go and visit your family doctor who should be able to point you in the direction of a psychologist to help with dealing with it and feeling more confident. Possibly they may also refer you to a spinal surgeon if your case is severe, but often, as I said before, it appears to the patient to be much more noticeable than it really is.
