  • If the vehicle has a PPS (Pedal Position Sensor) and a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) it is a drive by wire vehicle. That means the gas pedal is not connected to the throttle body by a cable. The ECM reads the PPS (what your foot says) and then operates the throttle using a motor. The motor's position is read by the TPS. If there is a cable running from the gas pedal to the throttle body, then it is not a throttle by wire vehicle and PPS and TPS mean the same sensor on the throttle body. If I knew what year vehicle I might have a better idea what is under the hood.
