I want to start a Police Brutality Protest/Concert on my Campus:
Bands, speeches, music fest, etc. Giving the students a voice.
How would i go about doing this?
And what should i look out for?
What other things should i include?
Opinions?

i am aware of, and completely understand that. there are good cops and there are bad cops just as there are good people and bad people. This is not a protest against good cops, just the unfair, the brutal, and the ones who abuse there power.

what kind of charges and how can it be avoided?
What do you mean by "out of hand"; like a large crowd? or violence, cuz this is intended to be violence free.

I do expect a bad rep, but whatever.

I can understand your concern behind this but the thing is, everyone always says "I'm going to start a piecefull protest and voice my opinion" It is in the fist amendment right to speak freely! How ever, you can't speak for everyone who is going to show up..booze gets involved stories get thrown around and boom the crowed gets going and all hell breaks loose and now the riot police are there. Most cities require you to get a protest permit..that can be hard to get cause lets face it, most don't end nicely and they cost the city loads of money in damage. Some of the charges you can face if it does get out of hand are, faluire to comply, unlawful assembly, obstruction, trespassing, offensive conduct, damage to property, violent disorder. There are also indictable charges as well..riot and affray, and if you don't give police your proper information if you get caught then they can nail you on concealing your identity with intent to commit a crime.

I'm not trying to scare you away I just want you to understand what can be involved from the side of the law. I have no idea what city/town or even state your in but just do your research before passing out the invites.:)

but, i was intending to get pre-approval to use a certain area to protest. I knew about the protest request form i'd have to obtain.
I thought that'd be enough.
If i advertise this protest as a Peaceful gathering, prohibit anyone intoxicated from attending and threaten the removal of any persons expressing any violent behavior, woul that work-out?

Sure, the more you do to make it peaceful the better..It wouldn't hurt to make each person sign a waiver stating this is a non violent protest and you are responsible for your actions and safety well attending this movement! (something like that) Remember that the police are going to be watching for every little thing and well be looking to arrest people just to make an example out of this movement, even some students may not like this so just watch how you do things and what you say. not all cops are bad in fact most cops are very good! Like I said really do your research and get your facts before doing anything, This isn't something that is just planned over night!

I know most cops are good, but there still are some that aren't...

I will definitely try to have a contract-like thing that people must sign to attend. this will help to protect both them and me.

brutality of police in general; throughout the entire nations.

I've heard of all types of stories. Mind blowing stories and minor.
I have seen first hand how some police don't even care about helping the people (what they took an oath to do). I have seen people be victims of crimes and have the police show-up and not give a care, tell a lie to promptly get out of doing more work.

Only brutality i've heard was some unarmed kid was shot no more than 2 blocks from where i live. Charges on officer was promptly dropped and things were kept under wraps.

You must live in BFE, blind, or just plain ignorant to pretend these sort of things never happen.
These things don't happen often, but just because it doesn't happen often does not mean we should go on doing nothing about it.
