I got a weird question on my calculus midterm. Could anybody explain it to me? "Prove that y = x^3 + 1 and y = -e^x intersect each other. Do not show where they intersect" I know it has something to do with the Intermediate value theorom.

ok, so we know the interval for (1)y=x^3+1 has an interval from (-infinity, +infinity) and (2)y=-(e^x) has an interval from (0, -infin.) (and neither have vertical asymptotes, therefore no limit on the x axis) then we know the intersect. the teacher did not ask you where they intersect, because it is kind of hard to equate. -(e^x)=x^3+1 because you cant ln a negative number. (this doesn't mean its not possible) -
