  • Lefties are right brained meaning creative and free thinking and it gives much hope that baby is not Republican. Rejoice.
  • left-handers are right brained. where something like 10% of the population are lefties, not having changed in centuries, about 40% or so of u.s. presidents have been left-handers. associated with thinking outside the box, highly intelligent folks like obama, clinton, perot, and ghwb were lefties. w wasn't. lefties are also more likely to be felons. we're creative thinkers, often for good, sometimes for not-so-good.
  • My mother is left handed and as far as I know she never faced any difficulties except me teasing her because she puts the knife and the fork on the wrong side of the plate sometimes :P
  • How old is your baby? It isn't normal for a baby to develop a preference for one hand until they start writing, usually in school. If your baby is using one hand over the other, there may be a problem. If your baby is REALLY using one hand over the other and is under school age, then get him/her to the doctor NOW! Mine did that and none of the baby books said anything about it, so I didn't worry about it. It turned out that she'd had a stroke and had a major brain aneurysm. We managed to catch it and repair the aneurysm before she stroked out, but we were lucky.
  • My wife is left-handed and where she works they consider it a plus. I asked her if she had any difficulties with it and she says that she's been left handed all her life and wouldn't know.
  • No, nothing that hasn't been anything more than momentarily inconvenient. Being forced to use your non dominant hand (as was once common practice in schools) would be very distressing and can cause learning difficulties. Being left or right handed involves much more than simply the hand with which we write with. Given that being either left or right handed is determined by which hemisphere of our brain is dominant, it involves our entire body.
  • My son is a lefty. He does not complain about much though. If something gives him trouble using his left hand he uses his right, or comes up with some crazy way to do it.
  • Not really, I actually liked being a bit different, and I found it gave me an advantage in many sports.
  • I am speaking for my sister who sits near me. She is left handed and has no complaints other than not being able to use regular scissors and finding it annoying to write when sitting close to a right hander =)
  • I'm a lefty and would not change anything. No true hardships with societal adjustments. Proud to be different.
  • Im left handed, and I love it. I wouldnt change it for the world. Like people are saying, it gives us the creative edge, because we use the right side of our brains. Its also a "rumor" that people who are left handed draw and are better at all aspects of art. so get a pencil into his hand and let him draw away!
  • I'm left-handed, and the only real problem I have ever had is with scissors. I know they make the left-handed kind, but I still can't ever seem to get it right. I don't know, maybe it's just me. =P +3
  • if you're strongly left-handed, and a big computer nerd, computer mouses will frustrate you. Any sort of "ergonomic" mouse or high-tech mouse will be designed for a righty. things like stickshifts are, for americans, right-handed, but all of britain gets along with left-handed shifts so that's certainly adaptable. The biggest difficulty will be teachers who still think left-handed is "wrong" and try to switch it. I'm not sure how you can watch for that, but be sure her teachers know you don't want that changed.
  • My husband is left handed. At school he was beaten over the knuckles with a metal ruler every time he tried to write with his left hand. He was told by the teacher he was the devils child and made fun of in front of his class. This has led to him having poor hand writing as an adult. Your baby is lucky to be born into different times. He has left handed scissors and we are looking for a good left handed can opener. Be aware, many people will say their scissors are left handed but often they are not.
  • Yes! Buying left handed cups and mugs.
  • From Uriah: I have always been a leftie and it doesn't bother me at all. I love writing with my left hand, it is comfy. :)
