Most bosses are nice and are actually human when not talking business. In their role of being a boss they will do anything to motivate and unfortunatily a lot of bosses still believe that motivating negatively still is a great way of getting the job done. Most of the time it just means they do not know how to stimulate people in a positive way.

Bosses aren't in a position to be 'nice' most of the time. Their job entails telling people 'no', delivering bad news, reprimands and firings.

For the most part if you think your boss is not *nice* it's because you have a poor idea of what your own job is.

I'm not currently a "boss" but i have been in the past. I gave off every holiday with pay, 21 personal days off a year, and 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year. I also gave full sick pay, albeit not on a schedule, to anyone with a legitimate reason for being out. The most was 7 sick days in a year. I think I passed for "nice boss" in most categories. However, one thing i did not tolerate, was being late for work, or late with work done, at work. That was unacceptable for me; after all, i had a business to run, and that effected my ability to to so and make money, to pay for things, like employees.

Yes. I had a nice boss for over 10 years. He was firm, dependable, a man of his word, flexible, a good listener, and a perfect gentleman. He was fair and ethical with everyone. I learned in that job and in another job earlier in my career that the atmosphere can change overnight when one boss leaves and another takes over. In my case the atmosphere changed for the worse in both instances but I know it can work the other way. In my case promises were broken, past performance and dedication lost it's value, and mutual respect went down the toilet. Sometimes a change in bosses has to do with a larger change in the whole scheme of things and where you once "fit in" you could find yourself as an outsider.

They are out there. I've known many nice bosses, but often I've noticed it is more in the attitude of the employees that helps make a boss nice or not. They might start out nice and then feel like they are taken advantage of by some people and don't see the results they like. And often a nice boss will change when there is too much pressure on them from higher ups or from the economy in general. But inside they are still trying to be nice good fair people, not much different than the people who work for them, really
