• Why does that have 168Gb HD? What requires that much space on it? 0,0
  Mine is as I said from 98, running same Win98SE, 131MB RAM, 2MB AGP VRAM (acts like 32Mb VRAM - I can watch videos with it 0.o), 375MHz CPU and 6+20Gb HDs (separate drives).
  I'm thinking of clean reinstall of Windows 98 on 20 gig drive and, since W98 doesn't support my USB drives, adding Puppy Linux on to 6Gb drive should give access to the rest functions that W98 lacks of.

• That's because it's old version, and I can't update it, because I have no internet cards installed inside PC for accessing Windows Update site...
  Well, if you can point me to Win98 installation which has USB support... :p

• I'm afraid it's more than 10MB because you need the entire CD (the drivers are actually for an mp3 player, but they work for any removable USB drive).

• Whoah.. Hmm, then it's harder.. so somewhere about 700Mb? Hmm, if you have a tool that can rip the CD to ISO then do it. Then pack the ISO with 7-Zip, and then if it's <= 200Mb then you can upload it to somewhere.
  And if not, then you can always share it via torrent. But seriously, rip it to ISO, pack with 7-zip, and tell what's its size, maybe I can download it directly from you.

  Luckily, it's a miniature disc, so the total size is like 400-500MB. With 7-Zip it could make it under 200.

• Erm, never use RS, never!!
  Use Share Send, TinyUpload, MediaFire or any other site which doesn't have a brutal "wait few years before you dl" or "sorry we are *all out* of download slots".

• SwitchFK.exe inside that package ... My AV tells me that it contains Email-Worm.Win32.Nyxem.e, can you explain that?

• No clue. It's just a CD rip. Can your antivirus clean the file or something?

  Otherwise, you could try moving the .exe elsewhere (somewhere safe in case it is infected) and still run the normal installation to see if it still works.

  I don't know. You can try deleting the SwitchFK.exe file and seing if the installation will still work (though I realize that might be risky). I'm going to scan the non-compressed file to see if it's infected too.

• You better scan your W98, where you installed it, to see if it has spread to somewhere, if not, then it might be just a file with "similar to virus" signature, but it actually isn't.

• I scanned the other copy of the 7z file and the actually ISO. They both turned up the same thing. Unless my computer already had a virus and it made it to the rip, I don't see how this could have happened. I don't really feel like ripping it again. I will, however, scan the CD itself.

• Yep. The "virus" was detected on the CD too (and it's a commercial CD). So it's almost definitely safe. It's up to you though, I really wouldn't want it to actually cause any harm.

  If you do go through with it, select on of the mp3 players from the installation menu. If you try one and it doesn't work, you can try the other one. I can't guarantee the drivers will work, but they did for me.

• I sure hope it's a "similar to virus" signature, because otherwise I've probably had that virus for about three years. Anyway, if you choose to go ahead with it, be careful. Make backups of your registry and important files (if you don't already do that). Let me know what you decide.

  Interestingly, my older (2000) version of Norton didn't find the virus. Since the CD is a bit older, I doubt it is a virus. Sorry for typing so much but if you like your Win98 computer anywhere near as much as I do, I would really hate to be responsible for breaking it.

  What I meant by my old version of Norton not detecting it is that the CD is a bit older than the virus scanner. Actually, I don't think even *I* know what point I was trying to make.

  Anyway, good luck reinstalling. I had an XP computer that I had to format a while ago. It kept restarting before the installation completed and had to start all over again. It was very aggravating. But then again, that was XP.

• Then you had old version of XP installation disk. I once had that one too, like only each 3rd installation succeeded lol. But now I have up to date fixed XP recovery disk, which causes no problems.
   
  But I've never seen my W98's installation crash before. But I've had serious problems with installing Linux <- worser than Vista, even if Vista was inspired by Linux's bloatness and user access bull. I haven't tried Vista, but I'm seriously doubting that if Linux really is better than it's Windows based clone Vista.

• I know, Linux is extremely overrated. I don't remember ever having problems installing Win98 either, but I haven't done it in a long time, so I wouldn't know. Hopefully nothing comes up.
