The appetite suppressant fenfluramine has caused at least seven deaths in Asia, according to the Aug. 5, 2002, issue of "Time" magazine. Kathleen Connolly of MSN Health and Fitness added that the chemical dinitrophenol (DNP) contribuated to two toxic deaths in 2006, and that the Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler died in 2003 from complications with Ephedra. Diet pills are rarely cited as the cause of death, but deaths from conditions that are caused or aggravated by diet pills are common among people known to take them, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
