Question

Help answer this question below.

I'm about to be taken off the depression medication I have been on for about 2 years. My doctor says it will be painful and similar to drug-withdrawal. Has anyone gone through this process and is willing to share their experience? I'm a bit scared.

Your doctor should not put you through any pain if he weans you off of it slowly, which is the correct way with any medication like this or even pain pills taken for a long time.

If you have concerns ask someone at your local hospital or ask another doctor. Going totally and suddenly off an antidepressant or tranquilizer is not at all recommended and can also not be safe. I would definitely get a second opinion!

My doctors took me right off my meds and for about a month i was incredibly irratable and lazy. NEver wanted to do anything. When on the meds i never had any issues, it just didnt work as well anymore more and i was at the highest dose. Plus i was in the process of enlisting and had to get off. The withdrawls depending on the meds vary but they do go away. Take it day by day.

i cannott say what you will or won't gp through, some times things happen for all the wrong reasons. what happened to me was i inadvertantly ended up staying in the united states for to long, and to ran seriously low on one of my medications and i felt ok and the next night i could'nt sleep and i got very thirsty and starter to get very short with people and i found that i could not get comfortable with anything, things started happening to me that i could'nt notice but other people could things like everything around me was exagerated and over done, this only happened for a couple of days but the whole experience did not have to happen, it was kind of my fault, the lesson for me was to not over look situations that you may not understand at the time, let some one know whats going on you dont have to do this by your self there is help

your doctor shouldnt just take you off them, he/she should reduce the dosage slowly. i was on antidepressents for 2 years and came off them but after 6 months i had to go back on them. luckily its not like this for everyone. it shouldnt be painful if you gradullay decrease the dosage over a period of time
