How do I explain what ironically means to my child and a sentence with it that a 13 year old would understand?

    That is a hard one, the word "ironically" is difficult to explain, since irony itself it a very intangible concept.

    I will try, but there a bunch of different types of irony.

    This is the easiest one to give an example of:

    "The man sold his watch to buy his wife a beautiful comb for her long hair. Ironically, she had sold her hair to buy the man a chain for his watch."

    This is situational irony. I think it is the best use of ironically I can think of.

    You can't fully explain it. Just say it's "sort of like a surprise ending."
