Cost and having to pay for healthcare for illegal immigrants. They are not paying for healthcare now and will not pay their share with a new healthcare plan. They know, by law, that the Federal Government will always pay for their health care at most Emergency Rooms. so, why should they pay for healthcare? you and i are going to have to foot the bill for 20 million illegal immigrants healthcare. This is one of the biggest concerns.

As a UK citizen I get the impression that the US people feel the system will be abused by immigrants; legal or otherwise who will have paid nothing or little into 'The System' This would also increase the waiting list for those who had paid in fully.

I assume that you are talking about the USA because most of the rest of the world already has what Americans call "socialized healthcare". I can only base any opinion that I may express on views that I have read here on Answerbag, in newspapers and on television news programmes, but it seems to me that, after decades of being told by all and sundry that anything that seems to contain any element of socialism must be bad, they are programmed to believe that the proposed changes to the healthcare system are bad, without even having to think about it. It looks as though Americans who engage in independent thought are prepared to consider alternatives.
