I have heard of some employers Googling potential employees and how their job prospects can be affected by information contained in social networking sites like Facebook.
I believe either there are, or they are in the process of passing, laws to make this illegal but, in my view, it won't work. If an employer doesn't want you, they will find legal reasons not to offer you the job.
Of course. If you are down to 10 applicants you can easily google them. Who wouldn't? If the position is important then it is a big risk to hire the wrong person. You'll google them and find them on facebook and see how they present themselves there. Someone that can't be found in 15 minutes on google (or if you can only find professional information about them) scores higher in my books.
