    First is the wired connection, that uses wires to connect the computers, second is the wireless connect they usually uses wireless broadband connection or router to network the computers third is the Scale, Networks are often classified as Local Area Network.

    They can be classified by speed: 10mbit, 100mbit, 1000mbit

    Protocols: TCP/IP, IPX, Appletalk, etc

    Peer to peer versus server-based

    Windows vs UNIX based

    IP subnets can be classified as A, B, or C

    Switches are divided into managed versus unmanaged
