you dont have too. but it helps to keep hackers away. though its kinda sensless to do so.

I never turn mine off Suby. My modem has power/dsl/ethernet/internet on at all times. When I "shut down" for the day, everything goes into a sleep mode but I never turn off my modem unless something isn't working right and I need to shut down everything so I can reboot! :)
