  • Only if the parents actively encouraged the act. There are many other influential factors that contribute to a person's actions, particularly for an adolescent. I'm sure there was some kind of "mob mentality" about it, I can't imagine one of those teens trying it on their own. Regardless, I don't think the parents are to blame in this situation.
  • What do we charge them with, for what actions? Those teenage boys know what they did was wrong.
  • If you kid bruned another kid, wouldn't that be a punishment? Anyway, I am with you really, they should have to pay and pay and pay forever. I'm serious. They should have to donate time and money to victims of this kind of atrocity and even go to classes on how to parent. They suck.
  • This kind of behavior doesn't come from out of the blue. Apparently, at least two of the kids were laughing at lighting Brewer on fire. The kind of human being that is able to do something like that, even when egged on by his friends, is sick and twisted. I would take a serious look at all aspects of their life (including their home life) to see if any warning signs could have been caught. The parents should be held accountable if they were a major contributing factor to their sons' behavior. Regardless, those boys need to be punished. I think prison time would not be out of order. They knew what they were doing is wrong, and they had to have thought about what they were going to do ahead of time -- they brought something to douse the kid in before lighting him on fire.
