Venus is incorrectly known as the morning star and evening star. So the bright "star" you're talking about might be Venus!

It's probably venus or some other planet. It's hard to say if we don't know your location, and if you are talking about something you've seen before, or you've seen last night.

If it is brighter than the surrounding stars then it is more likely a planet. The time of your sighting means that it is likely to be closer to the sun than ourselves (Jupiter appears more often in the middle of the night and I believe is currently on our side of its orbit). Since Mercury is too close to the sun to be seen with the naked eye then it eliminates everything but Venus. Hope this helps.
