A cosmic event-asteroid, solar flare etc. I am sure the popular answer will be people. Believe me, long after humans are extinct, the earth will still be here.

Us.

There are so many but the most surfire one is when we are so close to the sun no life exsits and the planet is no longer. No matter what man does, the planet is going to be here and outlast some major events, like the eruption of Yellow stone, it already has and will continue to do so, with or without us. Humans are just contruibiting to thier own demise, not the planet's.

I'm going to go with the space monster that no one knows about... It just eats planets... whole. But I'm sure we will help in the digestion with nuclear war.
-
Environmental issues and overpopulation, therefore depleting the soil, using up aquafirs ( earth' water reserves) and similar issues. Hopefully humans are smart enough to eliminate all nuclear weapons.....

Belief in the notion that we are causing global warming. "The British court found that An Inconvenient Truth "is a political film" riddled with scientific errors. The judge also held that requiring the film to be shown in schools would be a violation of law, unless accompanied by "guidance" pointing out its errors. The judge concluded that the claimant who objected to the film "substantially won this case by virtue of my finding that, but for the new guidance note, the film would have been distributed in breach of sections 406 and 407 of the 1996 Education Act." ~ John Fund, wsj http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704107204574469310880671246.html 31,000 Scientists do not believe in man-made global warming/climate change: http://petitionproject.org/ The founder of the Weather Channel knows it's a hoax: http://www.kusi.com/weather/colemanscorner/19842304.html The bottom line is someone's going to make huge amounts of money from this scheme and governments will have almost total control of everything that you do, because almost everything causes carbon emissions. Don't believe the hype!

I always wondered, but never found the answer to this question: carbon dioxide has never been this high, but neither has world population! We humans are like diesel-engines running full-steam 24-7. how much is the respiration of 6 billion humans contributing to the CO2 levels? I measured lately, and found out that in my, apparently badly ventilated room, I raised the Co2 level from 1000 ppm (at night) to 6000 ppm(in the morning) just by sleeping!

Cutting down the rain forest, dumping in the Ocean, streams, rivers. We are slowly poisoning our own environment and taking away the good stuff that would aid in healing. The fate of the people of Easter Island should be a warning to all of us. They used up their resources, cut down all the trees. War broke out among the tribes and there is evidence of possible cannibalsim for the final survivors before everyone perished. What is being done now to the Earth will affect all future generations. Previously unknown animals discovered. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7861563.stm Who knows what has been lost recently in the cutting down of our natural resources.

Thoughtlessness of people - we do not care for the earth's resources as we should

As a president said once before: "the greatest fear is fear itself". The problem and the solution rests with humans, or are we invaded by another intelligent species we can blame? I think the threat comes from our misunderstanding of who we are and what we (can)do as a global community. I think for that matter the greatest threat we face is how we manage (natural) resources in a world which will reach a population of 10 billion in the next 30-50 years.

The starvation; the crimes; the lies; and fear itself :))

Ignorance.

Pollution. However, the Earth will most likely fix itself up eventually after cockroaches and vultures are picking at out sun bleached bones.

Traditional Economics! The belief that GROWTH is the goal, the purpose of our existence, that if the economy isn't growing then we are all in trouble. So how do you make the economy grow? Make more babies. Build more houses. Catch more fish. Grow more food.
-
I think the biggest threat to humanity is our disconnect with the environment. We live in an age were everything is produced with total disregard to environmental sustainability. You can dump commercial, industrial, and residential waste into the streams, rivers, oceans and skies of the world. And sure enough, you may not see the direct result of such actions. But this has a compounding effect and the result is a world which becomes less habitable for yourself and future generations. It's this notion that we can do what we want as humans which is the biggest threat and it must change starting with the individual; not companies or governments.
