the first hardest thing was not comforting him EVERY SINGLE time he cried as a newborn... that meant learning to distinguish what cries meant what. It initially sounds cruel, but you teach your child early on to rely on himself for certain things, and it helps the child's mental fortitude and inner strength. i believe that advice was very good (at least in my sons and my situation)

Being sucessful, I found it very difficult in providing my sons with materialistic items, all the while, trying to make sure they dont feel entitled.

When to let go of control. You don't want your kids to get hurt but at some point you have to let them make their own decisions.
