Men are seldom threatened as much from women where their lives are in danger. That is the buzz outside anyway. Men have shelters for homeless people but no DV shelters. I can't imagine a man being scared of a woman and I know that is crazy thinking. I'm just not exposed to any stories.

Doesn't seem fair. It's reverse sexism, even though male domestic violence isn't as well known or documented, everyone should have a safe place to go.

Even if there were openings available, a man might not seek refuge at a DV shelter (the same pride/shame that prevents them from reporting abuse to the authorities). The thing is that the reason a shelter wouldn't allow men is probably for the comfort of the other women there (who would see another man as a threat)... and not so much about sexism.

While I do sympathise with the perspective of equality, you simply cannot expect women who have been through this to share their living space with any man. The psychological trauma that the victim has experienced is just too great, especially when you add the fact that many women in these shelters are there with traumatised children. On a personal note I have supported a good friend through abuse by his fiancé, really crazy crap like her battering him with a wok. The only answer, is separate shelters!

If men need such shelters then men's domestic violence shelters should start up. If an empty women's place takes in a man and then a woman shows up, then what? The reality is that there is precious little female on male violence in the same way that there is male on female violence. If that's not true, then start up those guys' shelters.

We can barely get funding for prostate cancer research. Nobody is going to fund a shelter for men. Nobody really cares where they end up.
