Wads of gay and wads of ass, silly. Wads are just globs of something all balled up.

A wad is a small mass. The word is evocative of something gross like mucous. An "ass-wad" could mean a wad of ass or a wad of something that comes from the ass, like shit. Gaywad would just mean a wad of gay ... it isn't intended literally, it's about the sound not the meaning.
