I haven't watched it, but I read some of the book in the library because I was curious after hearing all the hype in the media.

I think that visualization and positive thinking can be very powerful. Not only do they help you appreciate your current situations, they also serve to help motivate.

I've heard critics say that it's bull****, because "you can't magically attain something just by thinking about it", but people who say that have either not read up on the subject, or have missed the point entirely. It's about congruency of thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

Yes. I own it and many other books (and one other movie, "What the BLEEP do WE know?!") about the Law of Attraction. It's wonderful.

I think there is something to it. I know I am a firm believer that we create our future so this falls in with my personal philosophy.

It's magical thinking, blame the victim mentality, narcissism parading as spirituality, snake oil in a new bottle.

I believe it. I read the book and have been trying it for the last week or so. If nothing else, my outlook is more positive. I can see where bad things happened to me in the past because of negative thoughts.

I have been implementing the secret into my life for about 6-8 months now, and it has changed my life quite a bit. I used to hate my job, and always used to be a petty negative person when it came to career and money. But as we speak im sitting in my own brand new office, i love my job, im moving out of my parents house and am BUYING (not renting) my own place, my relationship with my girlfriend has been my longest ever, and overall i am grateful for what i have and am focused on what i want!

It was meant to be harsh. Narcissism is not something to be indulged.

You might also want to look at these, which point out the obvious fallacies and downright lies behind the so called secret:

And remember, people don't get cancer, starve in Darfur or get raped because of negative thinking and any belief that claims that they do is fundamentally despicable, including the secret and all the other law of attraction nonsense out there.

I have watched E. Hicks videos on youtube. I'm reading the book she co-wrote under the guidance of her spiritual guide, Abraham, "Ask and it is given".
I personally feel that there must be something true about what they say. The only way to find out is to learn how to correctly apply the law of attraction and then do it yourself. The basis of the LOA is that there is an intelligent Mind, which some past leaders allude to. We are part of this collective consciousness when we are not yet borne and we go back to it again when we die. When we live, we work a bit like a toaster. In order for us to be able to toast (manifest) our desires, we need a connection (a lead plugged into a socket) to the source which we come from. Since we are not plugged into this source by virtue of a lead like a toaster does, we need to attract it by virtue of the law of attraction. This law says that like-attracts like. This intelligent Mind or Source conjures up the events, situations, poeple that will just "by coincidence" come into contact with us. The people, situations we experience will lead one another to the attainment of that which we asked for. However, the source is helpless if we cannot connect to it. If there is not connection to a "plug" a toaster cannot toast, a hover cannot hove, a car engine cannot start; likewise we cannot bring about that which we desire without a connection the bigger part of that which is us. Why? Becasue source is stronger, bigger and more powerful. The source within us projected into our body at birth is smaller, hence many times weaker and less powerful than the bigger part of us, the Source or Mind. Hence, Source attracts whatever we think or desire and gets the job done by virtue of the law of attraction. The manifestation would be manifested at this point, if only we were "connected" to it. Connecting to the source is done by applying the principle of law of attraction. You have to tune into the same frequency by paying attention to that which you desire.
