Lots of people on dating websites describe themselves as "Spiritual but not religious." What do you think this really means?

I think that it usually means that the person in question believes in "God" (very loosely defined), but he/she does not subscribe to the doctrines of any particular religion.

I think it means that they have a sense of right and wrong and consider themselves good people even though they don't attend church or adhere to the dogma of any particular religion. +5

I think it believes the person has spiritual beliefs without following the rules or guidelines of a specific organized religion. They may believe in "God" but do not believe strictly in the Bible or Torah or Qu'ran. They may habe Buddhist beliefs but not follow the religion strictly. They may simply be agnostic.

When a person who describe themselves as "Spiritual" is beause the person knows the concept of the religion and have enough knowledge of their belief ,and the relious is the ritual a person does everyday for sack of doing it mechanical way.

I think that's a euphemism for "lapsed Catholic" or lapsed anything-else. People who had a religious upbringing but don't go to church or temple except for weddings and an occasional holiday.
